The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, CP Ajao Adewale, has called on residents of Abuja to strictly comply with traffic laws.
He also enjoined them to support the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across the territory.
He stressed that obedience to traffic regulations had the tendency to reduce traffic grid lock in densely populated areas.
On Monday, spokesperson Josephine Adeh quoted Adewale saying traffic law obedience promotes safety and national development
“Respecting traffic rules and regulations helps reduce congestion, especially in densely populated areas, and prevents avoidable accidents,” he said.
The CP’s remarks come from recent traffic gridlocks experienced in parts of the nation’s capital.

Residents familiar with smooth vehicular movement within the city have complained against prolonged congestions on roads.
Adewale warned against illegal parking, street trading, and roadside hawking.
He stressed that the activities disrupt the smooth flow of traffic, endanger lives, and could lead to fatal incidents.
“The police are not adversaries; we are partners in progress. Respect for officers, obedience to traffic regulations, and refraining from illegal roadside activities are vital to creating a safer, more organized FCT,” he said.
He, however, warned individuals and groups against attack on police or obstruct law enforcement officers, especially those carrying out traffic management and public safety assignments.
He warned that such acts would atteact full weight of the law.
Adewale warned that anyone who assaults or obstructs officers on duty will face legal consequences.
“The FCT Police Command remains committed to securing the lives and property of all residents. Authorities encourage the public to report traffic violations, suspicious activities, and emergencies via the emergency lines.”
