Comptroller General of Customs mourns Mallam Kabir Dangogo

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and theentire management and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have express deep sorrows over the passing of Mallam Kabir Dangogo, a distinguished scholar, journalist and trailblazer in the field of public relations.

Abdullahi Maiwada Assistant Comptroller of CustomsNational Public Relations Officer, stated this in a press release at the weekend.

Maiwada who went down memory lane on Dangogo’scareer odyssey recalled: “Mallam Dangogo, born on February 21, 1949, dedicated his life to excellencein journalism, public relations, and corporate communications. His career spanned decades of impactful service, starting as a journalist with the New Nigerian newspaper and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) before becoming the Managing Editor of New Nigerian between 1988 and 1989.He later transitioned into academia, serving as a senior lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic, shaping futureprofessionals in the media and communications space.”

“A renowned figure in public relations, Mallam Dangogo played a pivotal rolein shaping corporate communications in Nigeria. He served as a Press Adviser for the United States Information Service in 1990, as a Public Relations Officer at Bank of the North Limited and Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. He later founded Timex Communications, a PR firm and communication training school.

“His influence extended beyond Nigeria, as he was the founding President of theAssociation of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB), Secretary-General of the Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA, now APRA), and Chairman of the Nigeria Chapter of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) between 2002 and 2006.

“His remarkable contributions earned him several prestigious recognitions,including Fellowships from the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS) in New York, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).

“He also received multiple awards,including the NIPR President’s Award for Excellence in Public Relations in 1996and the Lagos State Chapter of the NIPR Award for Excellence in 2005.

“Mallam Kabir Dangogo’s passing is a great loss to the public relations andmedia industry. His professionalism, leadership, and mentorship legacy willcontinue to inspire generations to come.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Comptroller-General extends heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the entire communications fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Maiwada said.
